Our MSc comprises foundational units in finance and accounting alongside advanced units in the following areas: Financial Management, Financial Markets, Financial Strategy, Private Equity, Data Analysis & Statistical Techniques and Quantitative Methods for Financial Management.

Our MSc Financial Management blended-learning course also offers face-to-face workshops (six days, twice each year) in Singapore & Kuala Lumpur. Programme At A Glance
Each unit consists of 15 credits (excluding the final project) and requires a total of 150 hours of study per unit.
There are no exams within the MSc. Summative assessment comprises individual and group coursework, with two assessments per unit. We will provide online quizzes and activities through each unit as methods of formative assessments.
The final project will consist of a group project.

When life changes, your studies should be flexible enough to change with you. You will be able to graduate with a postgraduate qualification if you’ve met the following requirements:
Candidature up to 1 year.
To graduate, students must complete 60 credits (4 units) to be awarded with a Postgraduate Certificate.
This programme allows you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you. Students can return to stack towards a higher qualification at a later time.
Candidature up to 2 years.
To graduate, students must complete 120 credits (8 units) to be awarded with a Postgraduate Diploma.
This programme allows you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you. Students can return to stack towards a higher qualification at a later time.
Candidature up to 5 years.
To graduate, students must complete 180 credits (8 units + dissertation) to be awarded with a Masters.

Dr Amedeo De Cesari

Course Director, MSc Financial Management
Dr Amedeo is a Senior Lecturer in Finance in the Finance and Accounting Group at Alliance Manchester Business School. He previously held appointments as a Lecturer at Aston Business School (2008-2014) and at Manchester Business School (2007-2008).
He was awarded a PhD in Finance from Manchester Business School in 2008. For his PhD thesis, he examined the determinants of Italian open market stock repurchases and the effects of these transactions on several measures of market quality.
Most of his research lies in the areas of corporate finance and corporate governance with a particular focus on dividend payments, stock repurchases, initial public offerings and executive compensation. His research papers have been published in reputable international journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance.
He has also acted as an ad-hoc reviewer for several reputable journals including the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Financial Review, the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting and the British Accounting Review.
Over the years, he has taught both Undergraduate and Postgraduate (including MBA) courses in Finance, Corporate Finance and Derivatives.

Professor Arif Khurshed

Prof. Arif completed his PhD from the ICMA Centre, University of Reading and joined the University of Manchester as a post-doctoral research associate in 1999. A year later he took up a lectureship in Finance. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005 and then to Professor of Finance in 2013.
Prof. Arif is on the editorial board of the British Accounting Review and is an academic member of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC). He is one of the founding members of the BAFA SIG in Corporate Finance & Asset Pricing. Arif have been an external consultant to the UK Financial Conduct Authority (formerly FSA) and the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA).

Dr Julian Jones
Senior Lecturer in Management Accounting, AMBS

Dr Julian W Jones started his career at Alliance Manchester Business School, completing a Ph.D. in Financial Strategy whilst working on a number of research programmes for the ICAEW and teaching Management Accounting & Business Strategy.
Julian then left academia to take up a position in practice. In this advisory role with Chief Financial Officers of corporations in +$1bn organizations, Julian worked with over 400 CFOs, advising them on a range of challenges from instilling cost discipline, M&A value capture, finance transformation, capital discipline, strategic planning and managing in a crisis. He was the firms’ headline presenter at the firm’s prestigious annual executive retreats; a forum brining influential groups of CFOs who together, often with collective revenues greater than the GDP of entire nations.
He is focused on influencing the pedagogy of accounting education. He constructs innovative ways of providing formative feedback to large classes. He is also a firm advocate of using in-class polling as a means of better engaging with groups of largely international learners, and helps learners contextualise their learning via e-learning apps that showcase live business and accounting challenges prior to attending class.
In addition to creating and delivering bespoke programmes for executives, Julian has devised and delivered accounting based education across the School’s global centres. He also teaches on a range of undergraduate management accounting and strategy programmes, and has created a new virtual MBA Accounting module to support the School’s joint venture with Kelley School of Business, Indiana University.

Dr Paul Simpson

Prior to joining Alliance Manchester Business School, Dr Paul Simpson held positions at the University of Stirling and UMIST. He currently teaches modules on Mergers and Acquisitions for both the MSc in Accounting and Finance and MBA courses.

Ms Patricia Perlman

Patricia is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School. She has a Masters in Finance and International Management from Stockholm School of Economics. She also holds a Post-Graduate Qualification in Teaching (PGCE) and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Patricia is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA ) and a ABNLP qualified Master Coach and NLP Master Practitioner.
Patricia has extensive experience in the finance sector including derivatives and wealth management where she has worked for over 11 years in large financial corporations such as Citigroup, JP Morgan, Nomura and Barclays in Manchester, London and New York.
Patricia has worked with a wide range of financial markets products, including structured funds, structured products, OTC options, notes, swaps and warrants, and proprietary index derivatives. She has also worked with a variety of client types including banks, asset managers, insurance companies, large corporates, fund distributors and other financial institutions.
In 2019, Patricia was awarded Faculty of Humanities AMBS Outstanding teaching award. In 2017 Patricia was awarded AMBS Academic of the year Full-time MBA. She has also been nominated for numerous other teaching awards such as Faculty Teacher of the Year and Most inspiring Lecturer.

Professor Brahim Saadouni
Professor of Accounting & Finance, AMBS

Brahim Saadouni is a Professor of Accounting & Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester. Prior to joining AMBS, Prof. Brahim worked at the School of Management, the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST: 2000 – 2004) and the University of Hull (1991 – 1999) where he held the position of the Head of the School of Accounting, Business & Finance, and Director of the Centre for International Capital Markets Research.
Prof. Brahim has extensive teaching experience both in the UK and overseas. He has delivered courses and workshops in the Middle East and North Africa (Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) and Asia (Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore). He has also given workshops to practitioners in the UK, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Indonesia. Brahim has held Visiting Associate Professorship at the School of Management, Boston University (USA), and also held a Visiting Research Fellowship at Perth Business School (Australia). More recently (2016-2017), Professor Saadouni was Visiting Fellow at the School of Banking & Finance, the University of New South Wales, Sydney (Australia).
